Pardalote Box project
23 February 2024
In late 2022 the Shed was approached by the Macedon Ranges Shire Council to partner with them to build 125 pardalote nesting boxes as part of their storm recovery program. Pardalotes or peep-wrens are a family, Pardalotidae, of very small, brightly coloured birds native to Australia, with short tails, strong legs, and stubby blunt beaks.
The boxes were made from recycled storm timber milled by the Council’s mobile milling plant. This was a major project which the members completed in January 2023. Before the boxes were distributed to the community they were painted at our shed by an enthusiastic group from Village Connect. Community Groups working together for better outcomes.
